Early life
• When he was three, his family moved to Poland (Cracow)
• Two years in the Cracow’s ghetto - his family being Jewish - but
then escaped and went into hiding.
• Polański's mother, however, perished in a concentration camp.
• After the war Roman found only a father which survived the
concentration camp
•As a teenager Polański acted in children's radio plays and on the
stage.
•film acting debut took place in 1953.
Early Career
• a student of film directing at the National Higher Film
School in Łódź
-he made few etudes including the acclaimed Two Men a
Wardrobe (1958)
•Following the authorities' hostile response to the Knife in
the Water (1962), his feature debut, Polański left Poland.
