Music Department
College of Arts, Letters, and Education
Why study Music?
We believe the study and enjoyment of music inspires
students to be informed, responsible, and appreciative
members of a democratic society. Music majors work
closely with faculty, who combine dedicated teaching with Department Chair
Dr. Sheila Woodward
artistic and scholarly excellence. Instructors and students
Music Building 119
hold concerts and recitals throughout the year.
Scholarship Opportunities
The Music Department has scholarships available to
incoming freshman as well as continuing students. For
details on audition dates, call 509.359.2241 or visit
www.ewu.edu/music.
Practice Rooms and Performance Facilities
Music students enjoy modern facilities featuring a state of
the art piano laboratory with 16 units, 32 practice rooms,
electronic music laboratory, three technically-enhanced
classrooms, and an extensive collection of recordings,
scores, and music reference materials located in the JFK
Library. In addition, the department houses music
classrooms, two large rehearsal rooms (vocal and
instrumental), and a 250-seat capacity recital hall. The
renovated Showalter Hall serves as an additional
performance venue.
