Brass Family

A brass instrument is a wind instrument made
out of metal with a cup shaped mouthpiece
connected to a tube ending with a flared bell.
 Devices used on modern brass instrument to
play multiple notes are valves and slides.
 Brass instruments produce their sound by the
vibration of the lips as the player blows into the
mouthpiece. The faster the air, generally the
higher the pitch.
Trumpet

The trumpet was first used by the ancient
Egyptians for war.

It first looked like a straight tube with a
flared bell.
Trumpet
Modern day trumpets have
3 valves which allow them
to play many more notes.
 Trumpets are used in the
orchestra because of its diversity in
sounds.
 It has both a piercing, brassy sound and a
soft, muted sound.
 Its mouthpiece has a small,
cupped shape.

Trombone
The trombone was developed from the
trumpet.
 The word trombone derives from Italian tromba
(trumpet) and -one (a suffix meaning large), so
a trombone is quite literally a "large trumpet".

Trombone

The trombone uses a slide to change the
pitch of the sound. There are 7 slide
positions.

The mouthpiece is bigger than the trumpet
and French horn.
