Fanfares
A fanfare is a loud short piece of music, played
usually on the trumpet to introduce the arrival of
someone important or a special event
 Since medieval times fanfares have been used to
herald the entrance of a king, queen or other
important person
 Fanfares have also been used by the military for
many years and on the battle field so soldiers
know what to do

The Harmonic Series
Modern day trumpets have 3 valves to
change the length of the trumpet to make
different pitches
 In earlier times trumpets had no valves
like bugles and were limited to a range of
notes
 Most fanfares only use these notes
