Has a march-like oom-pah backing
Has SYNCOPATED music above the bass
Can you work out what syncopated means
Syncopation
When a melody goes against a steady
beat it is said to be syncopated
Syncopation features a lot in jazz, rock
and pop music
Make an oompah backing
Use the chords C (ceg), F (fac), G (gbd)
Arrange them into an oompah – one note
low (usually the Root of the chord), with
the other two on top
Practise it in pairs at a keyboard

Was a famous American composer
He was probably the first famous Black
composer
He wrote many famous tunes –e.g. The
Entertainer, Maple Leaf Rag
The Entertainer
Create the “Vamp” or “Oom-pah” for Scott
Joplin’s famous Rag – The Entertainer.
