THE MOST FAMOUS NIGHT CLUB
• Staring some of the most famous jazz and blues artists from Duke
Ellington, Cab Calloway, Count Basie, Billie Holiday, Nat King Cole,
Ella Fitzgerald, Josephine Baker to even Mae West have made an
appearance at the Cotton Club. Even had the Ellington orchestra.
ONE OF LOUIS ARMSTRONG'S FAMOUS SONGS. HE HAD MANY MORE SONGS TH AT WERE COMMON
DURING THE JAZZ AGE.
ELLINGTON ORCHESTRA.
The Ellington
band was very
famous during
the roaring
20’s.
The roaring 20’s was a time of
great enjoyment . Many younger
adults were out having funs as
well as the teens. They partied all
night and had under age drinking
at the Cotton Club. They lived life
to how they saw fit at this teen of
jazz and the blues.
BILLIE HOLIDAY
One of the most beautiful
singers at this time and
was very respected
amongst the community.
Joe” King” Oliver
Joe "King" Oliver was born May 11, 1885 and died on April 10, 1938. He was a jazz cornet
player and bandleader. He was particularly noted for his playing style, pioneering the use of
mutes. Also a notable composer, he wrote many tunes still played regularly.
“The Cotton Club”
The Cotton club attracted a lot of attention
and gained publicity do to the artist that
preformed there but after it shut down it
wasn’t like it use to be.
TH JAZZ AGE
• . Music hit main stream fast. The
African American artist started to
be on the radio and heard all
across the country. That
influenced many people to come
out of the wood work and
express themselves to the world
• Now people started to hear the
music that broke through the
sound barrier for the first time
ever. It amazed the community
and was an upbringing that no
one saw coming. I admit that this
was a great age for the music
industry.
“THE END OF THE COTTON CLUB”
The cotton club ended do to the Harlem riots. It continued on truly but
was never the same. The real jazz age has came and gone.
Nevertheless it open a great amount of opportunities for the jazz
players. As well as for the people that produced their music.
