Looking at plant cells
 Break off a piece of onion and peel off a thin layer
of its skin (epidermis) on its inside surface
 Cut a small piece of epidermis using a scalpel and
white tile
 Put it into the centre of a glass slide (make sure it
is not folded)
 Add one drop of iodine solution and cover with a
cover slip
 Look at your slide under the microscope on low
power
 Rotate the lens to see your cells at a higher
magnification
 Draw a group of cells on A5 plain paper
Looking at cheek cells
 Follow instruction sheet
Try this using potato, tomato
and petals
Plant cells vs. Animal Only
cells
plant cells
Both types of cell have these:
1) Cytoplasm this is where the
reactions happen
2) Nucleus –
The “brain” of
the cell
3) Cell Membrane –
holds the cell
together
have these:
4) Cell wall – provides
support
5) Chloroplasts –
contain chlorophyll
6) Large Vacuole
– contains sap
