much harder to successfully treat.
Screening results are instantaneous
Cameras can be used by volunteers;

IMPORTANT: The Corning Lions Club provides this screening as a community
service. While the PlusOptix Screener is a very sophisticated scientific, clinical
instrument, it may produce both false positive and false negative results. It is intended to
assist in identifying significant ocular conditions, which may lead to amblyopia (Lazy
Eye). If the patient passes this screening but the parent or guardian have concerns, or there
is an immediate family history of amblyopia, the child should receive a comprehensive eye
examination by an eye doctor. This screening is not intended to substitute for a
comprehensive eye examination.
I have read the above disclaimer and give permission for the Lions Club to
perform this screening. ____________________________________________

[Club Name] to Sponsor Free Vision Screening for Young Children
The [club name] will sponsor free vision screenings for children six months to six years of age.
The screenings will take place at [time] on [date] at [place].
“We encourage families to bring their children in for a free vision screening,” said [club
president]. “The actual screening takes less than a minute, but the benefits can last a lifetime.”
More than 12 million school-age children in the United States have some form of vision
problem, yet only one in three have received eye care services before age six.1 Many vision
problems run the risk of becoming permanent if not corrected by age seven, when the eye
reaches full maturity. Vision also plays an important role in education. According to educational
experts, 80 percent of learning is visual.

“Early screening leads to early detection, which helps ensure that children get the follow-up care

stand in the way of our children learning and seeing the world clearly.”
