COTS: Brief
• International encrypted cloud-based registry for Ocular Tuberculosis
• 1st international registry for Ocular Tuberculosis
• 1st attempt to use an encrypted cloud-based platform for medical study
Why Ocular TB
• TB estimated prevalence of 1/3 of the Worlds population
• Reports of Ocular involvement in 1-2% of all patients with Systemic TB
• Presentations are diverse without accepted diagnostic criteria
• Lack of practical and reliable diagnostic tests
Aims
• Collect good quality data to support reproducible recommendations
• Clarify clinical evaluation and management of Ocular TB

Methods – Web-based Data collection
• Real-time updates of primary data set
• Interactive platform programmed as a smart form
• Compulsory data points
• Smart phone optimisation – data entry via convenience of smartphones
Methods – Data protection
• Patient confidentiality – no patient Identifiers
• One-way site traffic into the Data set, preventing file corruption by viruses
• Entire data set saved and stored securely at regular intervals

Results of supporting ancillary investigations
Minimum of 1 year follow-up (for COTS-I, between Jan’05 – April’14)
Diagnosis of presumed ocular tuberculosis – satisfying this criteria:

Clinical signs suggestive of ocular TB
Investigations documenting the mycobacterium/ its genome
Corroborative investigations
Exclusion of other Uveitis Entities
• Exclusion criteria: Ocular co-morbidities interfering with media clarity
