What is our role?
• subjective, personal expression of the artist
• emphasizes art and design elements; references art history
• various approaches, references art terms and images
Photojournalist
• objective, factual informing/updating the public
• emphasizes the facts/information to objectively report a scene
or situation.
• no touching or interfering with scene; capture the “decisive
moment”
• reportage that includes single images (news, sports, features,
illustrations)
• photo essay
Documentary Photographer
• inform, persuade, or express a point of view
• can emphasize realism, “straight” approach, or sometimes a
more biased narrative (propaganda)
