Solar
Panel, Tracking System, Charge
Controller, Battery, Fan
The Solar Project:
The Tracking System
Use
Different Components
6 various light sensing diodes
Diodes Summed and compared
Relays tripped to run motors when center diodes are less than
outside ones.
The Solar Project:
The Charge Controller
Use
Regulates
charge going to battery

Substandard Housing
Goal
Purpose
Identify substandard housing in Lafayette area.
Identify future Habitat for Humanity building sites.
Method
Using results from freshman class study, determine the
evaluation area.
Formulate a rating system for foundation, exterior walls &
windows, landscaping, roofing and overall appearance.
Rate housing using detailed rating system.
Complete Prospect File for rated house.
Substandard Housing
Evaluation area
was determined
by using ArcView
GIS program.
Area of
concentration
from Wabash to
railroad tracks
and Union to
State Road 26.
Substandard Housing
Status
Detailed rating system for foundation, exterior walls & windows,
landscaping and roofing have been established.
Next Step
Use detailed rating system on houses in study area.
Complete Prospect File
Possible database project in maintenance of Prospect Files??
Blower Door Testing
Goal
Purpose
Measure Effective Leakage Area of house
Quantify tightness of house
Method
Create partial vacuum in house with
known airflow through fan, measure
differential pressure
Results: ELA ~ 86.1 in2
2x ELA of previous tests
Blower Door Testing
Blower door differential pressure
calibration
Previous test reading
Max diff pressure
Gauge precision
Proposed solution
More sensitive gauge
= .26 in2
= .28 in2
= .01 in2
Guide to Energy Efficient
Construction
Goal:
Provide HFH affiliates with design, construction, and
maintenance information that will reduce energy consumption of
house
Method:
Include analyses from previous EPICS groups (Spring 1999 –
present) and research on home construction and maintenance
Point of Sales Database
Purpose
Track inventory and
donors in the Habitat
resale store
Increase the
organization and
maintainability of the
resale store
Potential addition to
resale stores at other
HFH locations
Point of Sales Database
Bar Coding System
Utilize hand held bar code scanner w/
keyboard wedge
Bar code labeling software
Interface to database using Visual Basic
Point of Sales Database
Design
The
user will login into system
User information is stored in a separate Access
database and can be changed in the login menu
Once logged in, users will be interfaced with the
product database via Visual Basic
Users will be able to view, edit, delete, and add new
product information
Options available based on administrator privileges
Point of Sales Database
Users
will also be able to search and display
specific information about products
Each product will be labeled with a unique bar
code
Current Status
The
Visual Basic interface to Access database
and the Bar Code system is complete and in
the testing phase
Point of Sales Database
Future
Deployment
of the Beta version
Collect feedback and track bugs
Further debugging based on feedback
