• A mental disorder is an illness of the
mind that can affect the thoughts,
feelings, and behaviors of a person.

blues.
• The blues pass but for people with
clinical depression, the feelings of

and give examples
• (a) A conduct disorder is a pattern of
behavior in which the rights of others
or basic social rules are violated.

12. What is schizophrenia?
• Schizophrenia is a severe mental
disorder in which a person loses
contact with reality.
• The person has difficulty
understanding the difference between
real and imagined events.
• Symptoms include: hearing voices,
delusions of grander, paranoia,
generally begins in 16-24 year olds
13. List four ways you can help
defeat the social stigma of mental
illness.
• Use respectful language when referring
to a person with a mental disorder.
• Emphasize abilities over limitations.
• Express disapproval if someone shows
disrespect or inconsideration towards
people with mental disorders.
• Encourage people who have emotional
problems to seek help.
