What are signs?
How can I help someone?
What is healthy weight loss?
- Losing 1-2 pounds per week
- Accomplished by eating a balanced diet
- using moderation
- Exercising 3-5 times a week for about 3060 min.
What you need to know about
weight
• A person’s weight is NEVER based only
on what the scale says!
• You MUST also consider the person’s:





- HEIGHT
- AGE
- GENDER
- MUSCLE to BODY FAT RATIO
Without these pieces of information you can
not determine if someone is over or under
weight!
3 Reasons we NEED fat!
•
•
•
•
Our bodies need fat to survive!
1. Source of energy
2. Warmth
3. Provides cushion (for bones etc.)
Without fat our bodies can’t absorb certain
vitamins & women need some for
reproductive health (pregnancy).

Purging
• Purging - self-induced vomiting or laxative abuse
 Laxatives - pills that aid the movement of feces out of
