•The human body has 206 bones
•The smallest bones are found in the ear.
•The longest bone in the body is the femur.
•The bones are filled with a fatty substance called bone
marrow.
•Over half of the body’s bones are in the hands and feet.
•The only jointless bone in your body is the hyoid bone
in your throat
•As your bones grow, you become taller.
•Girl’s growth in height stops at about 16 years old and
boy’s at around 18 years old.
•The skeletal system has 206 bones,
and associated cartilage, tendons, and
ligaments.
•The bone’s rigidity provides the body a
framework, maintains its shape, and
protects its vital organs.
•Bones provide a place for muscles and
supporting structures to attach.
•Bones are the site for mineral storage
and blood cell formation.
•Tendons and ligaments are strong
bands of fibrous connective tissue that
attach muscles to bones, and bones to
bones.
•The skeleton has two parts: The
Axial skeleton & the Appendicular
skeleton.
•The Axial skeleton includes the
skull, hyoid bone, the vertebral
column, and the ribs.
•The Appendicular skeleton
includes the bones of the upper
extremities, the girdle, the pelvic
girdle, and the bones of the lower
extremities.
•Facial bones provide the
framework for the facial
muscles, form eye sockets, and
form jaws for the teeth.
•There are fourteen facial bones:
vomer( 2), maxilla (2), zygomatic
(2), palatine (2), lacrimal (2),
nasal (2), inferior nasal conchae
(2), and mandible (1).
•The femur (thigh bone) is the longest
and heaviest bone in the body.
•At the knee, the femur articulates
with the tibia (shin bone).
•Attaching to the lateral (outer side)
of the tibia is the fibula (leg bone).
•The fibula provides points of
attachment for muscles of the foot
and leg and increases the lateral
stability of the ankle. Unlike the tibia,
the fibula is not a weight-bearing
bone.
