The Pericardium Channel of Hand-Jueyin
General Information of the Pericardium (TCM)
1.
It is the tissue that surrounds and protects the heart.
2.
In the Zangxiang theory 脏象学说, pathogenic factors would have to
attack the pericardium first before invading the heart.
3.
The symptoms of high fever, coma and delirium in exogenous febrile
diseases are described as invasion of pathogenic factors into the
pericardium (TCM).
Relationship of the Pericardium to other organs (TCM)

Internally-Externally related to the Triple.

Route
There are 9 acupoints in the surface pathway of
the heart channel.

The inner pathway originates at the chest,
where it serves its organ, the pericardium. The
channel descends through the diaphragm to the
abdomen and then connects with the upper,
middle and lower energizer.

Route / Branch
The surface pathway emerges from the chest
near the nipple at point PC 1. From here the
channel ascends to the axilla and follows the
antero-palmer aspect of the upper arm, to the
cubital fossa. The channel then continue to flow
toward the middle of the antero-palmer aspect
of the lower arm, between the tendons of the
palmaris longus and flexor carpi radialis, to the
palm of the hand and the tip of the middle
finger.

A branch (Inner pathway) leads from point PC
8 to the tip of the ring finger and connects with
the Triple Energizer channel.

Principal Symptoms
1.
Feverish sensation in the palm.
2.
Spasm and contracture of the arm and
elbow.
3.
Swelling of the axilla.
4.
Chest and hypochondriac congestion.
5.
Palpitations with irritabilities.
6.
Flushed face.
7.
Mania.

Commonly used acupoint
PC 1 Tianchi 天池
Location : On the chest, acupoint is located
in the 4th intercostals space, 1
cun lateral to the nipple or 5 cun
lateral to the anterior midline.
Classification: The Crossing point of PC
channel and GB channel.
Approach: oblique / subcutaneous insertion
technique, 0.5-0.8 cun.
穴处肋间隙,形凹如池,
腰以上为天,
故为天池

Commonly used acupoint
PC 3 Quze 曲泽
Location : On the transverse crease of the
elbow, acupoint is located on the
ulnar aspect of the tendon m.
biceps brachii.
Classification: He-Sea point.
穴为心包之合穴, 属水, 正当肘内,
Approach: perpendicular insertion
technique, 0.8-1.0 cun.
微曲肘得其穴, 又与尺泽并列
故为曲泽

PC 4 Ximen 郗门
Location : On the palmar aspect of the
forearm, acupoint is located 5
cun above the transverse crease
of the wrist, on the line joining PC
3 Quze 曲泽 and PC 7 Daling 大陵,
between the tendons m. palmaris
longus and m. flexor carpi radialis.
郗为孔隙, 为 人体气脉出入之处,
Classification: Xi-Cleft point.
穴在前臂两筋之间,
Approach: perpendicular insertion
technique, 0.5-1.0 cun.
形貌有如两扇大门, 故为郗门

PC 5 Jianshi 间使
间为空隙, 使为使令,
Location : On the palmar aspect of the
forearm, acupoint is located 3
cun above the transverse crease
of the wrist, on the line joining PC
3 Quze 曲泽 and PC 7 Daling 大
陵 between the tendons m.
palmaris longus and m. flexor
carpi radialis.
间使者, 君行之使道
Classification: Jing-River point.
故为间使
Approach: perpendicular insertion
technique, 0.5-1.0 cun.

PC 6 Neiguan 内关
Location : On the palmar aspect of the
forearm, acupoint is located 2 cun
above the transverse crease of the
wrist, on the line joining PC 3
Quze 曲泽 and PC 7 Daling大陵
between the tendons m. palmaris
longus and m. flexor carpi radialis
内指内脏, 关是关联,
联络之意,
故为内关
Classification: Luo-Connecting point, one
of the 8 confluent point
(linking with the Yin Link
Vessel 通阴维脉).
Approach: perpendicular insertion
technique, 0.5-1.0 cun.

The Collateral route of PC
channel
PC 6 Neiguan 内关
Nei Guan: is assigned as the Luo-Connecting
point of the PC channel.
•
Its route as a collateral starts parallel, 2
cun above the transverse crease of the
wrist, disperse between the two tendons
and runs along the PC channel to the
pericardium which is located in the chest
/ upper energizer to link with the TE
channel.
(A branch of the TE channel runs
down the chest where the
pericardium lies and continues its
way to the lower energizer).

Commonly used acupoint
PC 7 Daling 大陵
Location : In the middle of the transverse
crease of the wrist, between
the tendons m. palmaris longus
and m. flexor carpi radialis.
Classification: Yuan-Source point, ShuStream point.
Approach: perpendicular insertion
technique, 0.3-0.5 cun.
大为崇高之意,
穴在掌根部, 两骨结合点的陵下
故为大陵

Commonly used acupoint
PC 8 Laogong 劳宫
Location : In the middle of the palm, between
the 2nd and 3rd metacarpal bone,
closer to the radial aspect of the 3rd
metacarpal bone, acupoint is
located on the spot where the tip of
the middle finger touches when a
fist is made.
Classification: Ying-Spring point.
劳指操劳, 宫指要所,
Approach: perpendicular insertion
technique, 0.3-0.5 cun.
中央手任劳作, 穴在掌心
故为劳宫

PC 9 Zhongchong 中冲
Location : Acupoint is located in the center of
the tip of the distal phalanx of the
middle finger.
Classification: Jing-Well point .
Approach: perpendicular insertion
technique, 0.1 cun, prick to bleed.
