Theatre 1-2
Class Play
• What is it?
– A chance for you to showcase your work for
friends and families
• When is it?
– One night in early/mid March
– Your conflict letter is important and due Friday.
No exceptions!!!
How does it work?
• The show is a series of short scenes linked
together by short monologues
• All students in the class are members of the
ensemble and are on stage at all times.
• Ensemble actors are frozen in tableaus (frozen
poses) while featured actors perform
(Example: When the rock stars perform, all other
actors are frozen in band positions, playing
pantomimed musical instruments, etc.)
When do we rehearse?
• During class
• At home
• Select AcaPreps (advanced Theatre students
will come to help too!
• Dress rehearsal on the afternoon of your show
Are there technical elements?
• Costumes
– You will need to wear blue jeans, a solid colored tshirt no logos), and closed toe shoes for the dress
rehearsal and performance. Hair should also be
pulled back so we can see your face.
– You may bring in additional costume pieces for your
scene.
Props
You will be asked to use your own notebooks,
backpacks, etc, as needed. We have specialty props
like the large Valentine, laptop computer, etc.
Other tech elements
• Black box set
– A series of elevated black cubes and platforms we
use to create levels
– You may use two benches in your scene
– (Don’t stand on the benches)
Lights and Sound
- Created and provided by Advanced/Stage
Production students.
What should I do to get ready?
• Learn your lines!!!!
• Make an AcaPrep appointment with your
partners for rehearsal (insert dates here)
• Plan your costume
• Learn the sequence of scenes when it is
provided to you (hopefully next week!)
• Use class time effectively
How does this affect my grade?
• This is a HUGE project- about 400 points.
• You will receive a rubric, but rest assured…some
of these points are also allotted to dress
rehearsal and theatre etiquette. We are
expecting your best work, but we will work with
you to make it the best we can.
• Don’t miss the show! It is a long term project, so
short of extreme emergencies (with
documentation), there is no make up work. And
the make up assignment is grueling!!!
So, why are we doing this?
• You will learn more about theatre in this one
night performance than you could ever
imagine.
• Your future job interviews and careers may
require you to speak in public. There is no
better training than this!
• It is FUN!!!!!
