DAY 1- MEET THE WORD PART
DAY 1 Look at these words,
Do any of them look familiar?
DAY 1
Record the word part and it’s
meaning in your journal.
DAY 2
Brainstorm with a partner the
meaning of the words.
Compare your meaning with
DAY 2 the actual definitions.
the bishop of highest rank in a particular
area
a prince of the royal family
someone's chief or main enemy
a person (such as a king or queen) who
rules a kingdom or empire
a man who controls a family, group, or
government
DAY 3
The correct definition of a word is clarified by the
words surrounding it. These words are called context
clues.
With a partner, write a paragraph using three or more of
the sample words. Be sure to include context clues
that clarify the words you
selected. Be ready to share
these with the class.
DAY 4
1. Using the word part “arch” which means “chief, rule”,
make up 3 of your own words.
2. Include a definition for the word.
3. Use the new word in a sentence.
4. Be ready to share your new words!
EXAMPLE WORD: archhound – the chief ruler of all dogs
EXAMPLE SENTENCE: The archhound had
control over all the dogs in his land.

Choose one of the words you
created and illustrate a picture to
go with your sentence.
