Lesson Plan
Class Description: Appropriate for a small
group of first grade students.
 The students have demonstrated
understanding of word families.
 The students demonstrate the ability to
differentiate same and different final ending
sounds.
 Objective: The student will identify and
match rhyming words from a familiar text.

Materials
Big book version of Goodnight Moon, by
Margaret Wise Brown.
 Chart paper/marker
 Power point presentation

Activity
Introduce book, Goodnight Moon, to the
students. Take time to look at each page
and have the students talk about what
they see on each page.
 Present the story to the class through
sign language and oral reading. Point
out the picture of the objects mentioned
throughout the story.

Re-Read the story. Write down the sets
of rhyming words on chart paper.
 Have the students read the groups of
rhyming words on the chart and again
on the list provided.
 Review the rhyming words with the
pictures provided in the presentation.
 Students can match rhyming words on
the presentation

