OUR SOLAR SYSTEM.
By: Spencer
Mercury
•Mercury is the closest planet to
the sun.
•Mercury has no moons, but it still
has nighttime.
•One day on mercury is 176 Earth
days.
•Mercury has barely any
atmosphere, so Mercury can
easily be hit by an asteroid or
meteor.
•It takes 88 earth days to orbit the
sun.
• Earth’s moon’s crust is
made out of what
Mercury's crust is made
out of, Silicates.
Venus
•Venus is the only planet
the has a longer rotation
than Mercury.
•Earth , Venus, and Mars all
have about the same
volume.
•Venus’ atmosphere has
tons of sulfuric acid, so life
cannot exist here.
• Venus reflects so much
light that it can be seen at
day on earth.
•It takes about 225 earth
days to orbit the sun.
•One day on Venus is
almost 243 Earth days!
Our home, Earth
•Earth is the only place
in the Solar System
where life exists.
•Over 600,000 species
of plants and animals
live here.
•Earth has one moon, it
is also the only other
place in space mankind
has been.
•About 72% of Earth’s
crust is water.
•The north pole is
actually only ice.
Earth
Mars, the Red Planet
•Mars and Earth both
take about 24 hours to
rotate.
•It takes Mars 436 days
to revolve around the
sun.
•Mars has two moons,
so it is more likely to
have a solar or lunar
eclipse.
•Mars is red because of
how much iron is in it’s
crust.
•It is thought that mars
had an atmosphere.
The Asteroid belt
•There are over 700,000
asteroids in the asteroid
belt.
•One asteroid is so big,
it actually has a
gravitational pull! It also
is considered a Dwarf
Planet!
•The asteroid belt is in
between Mars and
Jupiter.
•Most of the asteroids
are rock, but others are
made out of ice.
Jupiter
•Jupiter is the closest
gas planet to the sun.
•It is thought the giant
red spot on Jupiter is a
hurricane.
•Jupiter’s gravity is so
strong, it ripped apart a
comet!
•Jupiter is the largest
planet in our Solar
System.
•It has more mass than
all the other planets
combined!
Saturn
•Saturn is known for it’s
rings, but all the other
gas giants have rings
too.
•Saturn rotates every 10
hours and 57 minutes.
•It takes 29 ½ earth
years for Saturn to orbit
the sun!
•Saturn’s rings are
made out of ice.
•Saturn has more than
62 moons!
•One moon of Saturn
has liquid water.
Uranus
•Uranus rotates on it’s
side.
•It has the second most
visible rings of the gas
planets.
•Neptune and Uranus
both have similar
colors and density .
•Most people think that
Uranus has a core,
mantle, and an
atmosphere.
•Uranus has at least 27
moons.
Neptune
•Neptune is the farthest
planet from the sun.
•Neptune doesn’t have
a crust.
•Neptune has at least
14 moons.
•Neptune’s largest
moon, Triton, orbits in
the opposite direction
that Neptune rotates.
•Neptune has six pairs
of rings.
•Neptune’s atmosphere
blows winds at 900mi.
Per hour.
Pluto
•Pluto is a dwarf planet,
which means that it has
a volume less than our
moon.
•Pluto orbits the sun in
an oval shape.
•Pluto goes through
almost every planets
orbit.
•Pluto is named after
the god of the
underworld in Roman
mythology.
•Pluto’s surface is under
-300 degrees
Fahrenheit!
