• Hinduism is the oldest existing religion.
• 80 percent of the people in India are Hindu’s
–which are people who practice Hinduism.
• Religion began in northern India near the
Indus River.
• Hinduism is polytheistic because they believe
their god takes many forms.

Key Beliefs of Hinduism
Reincarnation- the Hindu belief that when you die you come
back in another form human or animal. This happens over
and over until the Goddess Lakshmi comes and takes you on
to heaven.
Caste System- system used in India that separates the
people of society into groups or caste. People are born into
these caste, or “Social Classes”, and they cannot leave it. All
marriages are from the same class. Cannot marry someone
frpm a different class. Only way out of a class is through
reincarnation
Karma - is the belief that if you live a good life, then when
reincarnated ,you will be born into a better life. But if you live a life of
lies and deceit , a bad life, you would be reborn into a lower caste.
Each life sets the destiny of the new life.

Sikhism
• 5th most popular religion in the world.
• Sikh-means disciple of God.
• Originated in Punjab region of India.
• Holy city of Sikhism is Amritsar.
Where the Golden Temple is located.
• Sikhs follow the teachings of the 10
Guru’s. Guru Nanak was the first and
founder of Sikhism.
Key Beliefs of Sikhism
• Primary belief is that all people are created
equal.
• Each person can find the divine in themselves
through devotion to God, truthful living, and
service and humanity.
• Believe in one god, the God of all people and
religions.
• Sikhs sacred text is called the Guru Granth
Sahib or the Adi Granth.
5 K’s of Sikhism
• Kesh- the uncut hair, which represents
spirituality.
• Kanga- the comb that is to kept in the hair
which represents cleanliness.
• Kara- the steel bracelet that represents
good deeds and the greatness of God.
• Kirpan- the sword that is for protection,
not only for themselves, but for others.
• Kaccha- shorts worn by soldiers to remind
themselves of self-discipline and modesty.
• Sikhs must wear a turban on their head, part of the
religious uniform.
