Word Problems!!!

Collegeboard says, “The questions in
the new exam will be more difficult to
solve through educated guesswork,
requiring an overall increase in the
number of discrete steps to solve, and
a stronger emphasis on fundamental
math skills as opposed to logic alone.”
 Let
students decide.
 Take both SAT and ACT
practice tests before making
decision.
 Studying for both tests is
definitely helpful.
 AP Statistics may be helpful.

Harvard says, “Most of all, we look for
students who make the most of their
opportunities and the resources available to
them and who are likely to continue to do so
throughout their lives…
U. Penn says, “The Admissions Selection
Committee will review your curriculum within
the context of what courses are available at
your secondary school. Competitive
applicants will have taken the most rigorous
courses.”


Stanford says, “We expect you to challenge
yourself throughout high school and to do
very well. The most important credential that
enables us to evaluate your academic record
is the high school transcript.”
Translation: If you are going for the most
competitive colleges, you should take the
toughest core courses available at your
school.

It is easier but still difficult.

SAT II Subject test is virtually IMPOSSIBLE!!.

Physics Olympiad is extremely difficult.

It requires STRONG mathematics.


National Chemistry Olympiad Exam
◦ A little more than total of 1000 students participate
the competition
◦ Three parts exam consisting of 60 MC, 8 FRQ and 2
Lab problems
◦ The test is administered at Kennesaw University for
GA students in April
◦ Top 142 students are awarded Honor and High
Honor (top 50)

Summer Camp
◦ 20 students are chosen to attend a study camp at
USAF Academy for two weeks during summer.
Based on performance, final four students are
chosen to represent the U.S. at International
Chemistry Olympiad.

It is relatively easy to prepare for the test.

There is a great chance to pass the Georgia
section exam.

It is a very prestigious award.

Preparation for the test also prepares
students for AP test as well.
