5/1/14 “Grade distribution” • If your grades (A, B, C, F) are the “resources” of the classroom, what type of economic system would you say exists in World History class? Explain. CAPITALISM: • Private ownership of industries & companies • No government regulations (rules) • Freedom of competition for profit • Results in unequal economic classes (rich & poor; winners & losers) SOCIALISM: • communism: • Classless/equal society is achieved • No government needed to enforce rules • • • Government owns and runs industries & companies “Profits”/taxes go to the govt. Resources would be distributed equally by the govt.
