What does a typical 9th grade
schedule look like?...
• Must take 6* classes!
• Can start at 8:00a.m.
or 7:00a.m.

*If you plan to take band/chorus in addition to a world language, consider taking
health in summer school, otherwise you will enroll in a 7 period day.
Academic Petitions
•
If already in HONORS: Can remain in
honors as long as student earns B- or
better at the last marking period.
•
If in COLLEGE PREP SCIENCE and wish
to try BIOLOGY HONORS: Must score a
475 on the STAR test and have two A’s in
the 8th grade.
•
If in COLLEGE PREP ENGLISH and wish
to try ENGLISH 9 HONORS: Must score a
475 on the STAR test and have two A’s in
the 8th grade.
•
If in ALGEBRA 1 CP but wish to try
GEOMETRY HONORS: Must score a 475
on the STAR test and earn three A’s in the
8th grade.
Students not meeting these requirements may go
through the formal petition process:

Pick up petition from your middle school
counseling office.
Fill it out.
Attach a transcript.
Attach a teacher recommendation form.
Submit a writing sample of an in-class essay
with teacher comments for English petitions.
Submit completed petition to your middle school
counseling office by May 1.
All 9th grade students in Honors must maintain a B- at ALL grading
periods, or you may be moved to CP.

sport, marching band or colorguard.
If you are interested in trying out for a team sport,
marching band or colorguard, go to your middle
school counseling office and fill out a Future
Warrior Packet
Health Requirement
Note: Health is not required for college admissions
• 1 semester of health
• Other half of the year will be filled with your choice of
Careers/Auto Safety or Microsoft Office.
• Health is offered during summer school so that students may
replace it with a full year elective, if desired.
• Auto Safety is not offered to students who take Health over the
summer.
• See the CVUSD website for information on taking Health in
summer school.
