NCAA ELIGIBILITY
• Become familiar with CORE and
CUM GPA
• Understand the Sliding Scale as it
relates to CORE GPA and Test
Score
• Know what the 48H form is and
how to access it from anywhere
• Know how to Register with the
NCAA for any potential athlete
What does an Athlete need
to qualify for the NCAA?
• There are two major things
needed to qualify to play sports
for an NCAA institution
1. CORE GPA
2. Highest ACT/SAT possible
** There is a “sliding scale”
provided by the NCAA which
combines the two to determine
actual eligibility **
What is CORE GPA and
Why is it Important?
• Core GPA refers to the grades
averaged out in the core classes a
student takes in high school
– This includes classes in Math, Science,
English, Social Studies, Foreign
Language
– There may be other classes included
but that is up to each individual
school and the NCAA to decide
– The CORE GPA is what matters when
qualifying for eligibility to the
NCAA…….sorry….weights, art,
photography do not mean much to
this!
– Cumulative GPA is everything
averaged out over all the semesters in
high school....KNOW THE
DIFFERENCE!!!

What Exactly is the
Sliding Scale?
• To put it short…the higher the
CORE GPA the lower the test
score can be to qualify (and vice
versa)
• This is why core classes in high
school starting from 9th grade on
are SO VERY IMPORTANT
• Kids will often figure out later in
high school that they want to
play ball but their core courses
may not be up to par and test
scores are too low
• The earlier a student gets this
the easier it is for them to qualify
