lot of money through these programs.
23


The minimum admissions requirements (MARS)
for college admission are the same as they are
for graduation except that students planning to
attend public colleges/universities must also
pass two units of the same foreign language.
Keep in mind that these are the MINIMUM
requirements. In order to get into more selective
colleges/universities, students must take a more
difficult curriculum.
NO MORE SENIOR YEAR SLACKERS!
24
25



Colleges rely heavily on the GPA in their
admittance decisions.
The courses that students take and the final
grades in those courses are VERY important
in college admittance decisions. Some
colleges say that your choice of courses and
your grades are the MOST important factor
that they look at when making admissions
decisions.
Colleges look at final grades from freshmen
year until senior year. So… FRESHMAN YEAR
COUNTS!
26
A
student must pass
6 credits.
27

Attendance is very strict!
◦ Students can miss 5 days in each class each
semester without being penalized.
◦ Each class is taken separately for attendance.


If students miss over 5 days they must
apply for a waiver and come before a
waiver board to state their case.
It is important to send notes back with
students! Excused notes help BUT if a
students misses excessive days, they can
still fail due to insufficient “seat” time.
28

Students who have 2 or fewer absences in a
class are exempt from exams (that aren’t
required).
◦ If a student has a class that does not have an EOC,
a CTE EOC test, or a NCFE, they can miss that day of
school during exams!
◦ Examples: Chorus, JROTC, Healthful Living, Art

Your child will bring home a letter to you
from the Driver’s Ed Office at RCSS.
Currently Driver’s Ed is not being funded by
the General Assembly. This could change
before the session breaks for the summer. If
it does not then there will be NO Driver’s Ed
this summer which is when 2/3rd of the rising
freshmen usually take Driver’s Ed.
Just a FYI.
