heart rate. Sympathetic
neurons in the upper
thoracic part of the spinal
cord innervate the
cardiovascular system of
the upper thorax. The
sinus node receives
sympathetic innervation
from T3–T4 and
parasympathetic
innervation from the vagal
nerve. Parasympathetic
afferent nerves from
baroreceptors in the aortic
arch and carotid sinus go
to the medulla oblongata
via the cranial nerves n.
glossopharyngeus and n.
vagus.
