I Allied Plan for Victory & Turning of the Tide

west to split allied troops
• Broke into American lines giving it
the name Battle of the Bulge
• Allies eventually win  Hitler’s losses
lead him to only be able to retreat
from that point on
• Hitler & his wife commit suicide
• Eisenhower accepts unconditional
surrender from the Third Reich
• V-E Day = victory in Europe Day
• V-E day marks end of fighting in Europe
but fighting still in the Pacific theater

• Japanese risk entire fleet to destroy the
American fleet
• Japanese suffered huge loss  could
no longer effectively fight  Kamikaze
