MASSACRE OF
BAUGNEZ LOOKED
LIKE BEFORE THE
SHOOTING.
AMERICANS—FRONT.
NAZIS—BACK.
MASSACRE OF
BAUGNEZ
ON THE BORDER OF
FRANCE AND
BELGIUM
THIS IS WHAT THE
MASSACRE OF
BAUGNEZ LOOKED
LIKE AFTER THE
SHOOTING. AS YOU
CAN SEE, MORE
SOLDIERS ESCAPED IN
THIS MASSACRE
THAN IN THE
MALMEDY
MASSACRE.
AMERICANS—FRONT.
NAZIS—BACK.
THE BATTLE OF
CRUCIFIX HILL
FRANCE
THE ENCOUNTER
SHOWN TO THE RIGHT
IS THE BATTLE OF
CRUCIFIX HILL. AS YOU
CAN SEE, THE
AMERICANS (RIGHT)
HAD LESS PROTECTION
THAN THE NAZIS (LEFT)
DID, WHO WERE
BEHIND SANDBAGS.
NEVERTHELESS, THE
AMERICANS STILL WON.
THE BATTLE FOR IWO
JIMA
ISLAND FAR OFF THE
COAST OF JAPAN
THE BATTLE SHOWN ON THE RIGHT
WAS THE BATTLE FOR IWO JIMA.
THE AMERICANS (DARK GREEN)
AND THE JAPANESE (LIGHT GREEN)
FOUGHT A VICIOUS DEADY BATTLE.
ON THE BOTTOM LEFT CORNER,
ONE CAN SEE THE MARINES
RAISING THE STAR SPANGLED
BANNER (THE AMERICAN FLAG) ON
MOUNT SURIBACHI. DIAGONALLY
RIGHT, YOU CAN SEE A PLATOON
OF SURRENDERING JAPANESE
ESCORTED BY SOME ARMED
AMERICAN MARINES. AS THE
AMERICANS ADVANCED ON TO THE
JAPANESE PILLBOXES, THEY
RECEIVED HEAVY CASUALTIES. THE
WAY THE DESTROYED THE
PILLBOXES WAS EITHER WITH
FLAMETHROWERS OR NORMAL
GUNS. THIS BATTLE WOULD BE ONE
OF AMERICA’S MANY VICTORIES.
THE BATTLE OF
CHERBOURG
FRANCE
CHERBOURG WAS ONE OF
THE MOST IMPORTANT
FRENCH PORTS THAT
WERE TAKEN IN THE
INVASION OF NORMANDY.
THE AMERICANS (RIGHT)
FOUGHT HARD FOR IT
AND WON. THAT BATTLE
ALSO INCLUDED A SIEGE.
NAZIS—LEFT.
WORLD WAR ll
THE SECOND WORLD WAR
WAS FILLED BY MILLIONS OF
FALLEN ON ALL SIDES. EVERY
ARMY FOUGHT FOR THEIR
FREEDOMS, RIGHTS, AND
POWER. THROUGHOUT THE
WAR, MILLIONS DIED. AND
FOR EACH MILLION, MORE
THAN TWICE THAT NUMBER
FELL INTO CRATERS OF
SORROW.
FOR SIX YEARS, THE ALLIED ARMIES (UNITED STATES OF
AMERICA, GREAT BRITAIN, SOVIET UNION, FRANCE, AND THE
COMMONWEALTH) FOUGHT THE AXIS ARMIES (NAZI GERMANY,
FACIST ITALY, AND IMPERIAL JAPAN.) THE ALLIED ARMIES FOUGHT
AT MANY FRONTS. THE ATLANTIC FRONT, THE PACIFIC FRONT, THE
EASTERN FRONT, THE WESTERN FRONT, THE ITALIAN FRONT, AND
MANY MORE.
IN AFRICA, THE NAZI AFRIKAKORPS, LED BY ERWIN
“DESERT FOX,” ROMMEL, STORMED ACROSS AFRICA WINNING
VICTORY BY VICTORY UP UNTIL EL ALAMEIN WHEN BRITISH
GENERAL, BERNARD “MONTY,” MONTGOMERY, DEFEATED HIM. THE
STRATEGY MONTGOMERY USED WAS TO USE ALL OF ROMMEL’S
FUEL, AND THEN FIRE AT THE SOLDIERS AND THE FUEL-LESS TANKS.
IN THE PACIFIC, THE IMPERIAL JAPANESE ARMY
TAKES OVER ISLAND BY ISLAND, UNTIL THEY WAKE UP THE
SLEEPING GIANT, THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA. THE
AMERICANS AND THE CANADIENS TAKE BACK THE ISLANDS BY
ISLAND JUMPING. FROM GUADALCANAL TO THE MARSHALL
ISLANDS, FROM PELELIU TO OKINAWA, THE USA WON BATTLES, TO
EVENTUALLY CAUSE JAPAN TO SURRENDER AFTER HIROSHIMA AND
NAGASAKI.
ON JUNE 4-6, 1944, THE AMERICANS, THE CANADIENS,
AND THE BRITISH LANDED AT NORMANDY, FRANCE AT 5
CODENAMED BEACHES. OMAHA, GOLD, JUNO, SWORD, AND UTAH.
THAT INVASION WAS OPERATION OVERLORD, MORE COMMONLY
KNOWN AS D-DAY, OR THE INVASION OF NORMANDY. THAT
INVASION FREED FRANCE FROM THE NAZIS THROUGHT MANY
BATTLES, SUCH AS BATTLE OF THE BULGE, BATTLE OF CHERBOURG,
BATTLE OF CAEN, THE BATTLE OF CRUCIFIX HILL AND MANY MORE.
AFTER SIX YEARS OF COSTLY BATTLES, THE AXIS FORCES
SURRENDERED TO THE ALLIES. THE NAZIS SURRENDERED ON MAY
8, 1945, TWO DAYS AFTER ADOLF HITLER’S SUICIDE ON MAY 6,
1945. THE JAPANESE SURRENDERED ON AUGUST 6, 1945, ON THE
USS MISSOURI
