through aerial(air) bombing
Motivated by Japan’s aggression
and Hitler’s rise, Mussolini ordered

killed over 100,000 people)

appeasement; give Hitler what he
wants to avoid a large war

Western powers agreed to allow
Hitler to invade Czechoslovakia,
mandated that Hitler was not
allowed to invade Poland
Hitler soon ignored the Munich
conference and invaded Poland in
1939.
This forced Britain and France to
declare war on Germany

As WWII began the Nazi military used
“blitzkrieg” (lightening): striking
quickly with their air force and next
with tanks - within half a year
conquered most of Western Europe and
Northern Africa
In 1941, in order to provide more “living
space” for the Germans and capture oil
fields the Nazis invaded the Soviet
Union (under operation Barbarossa)
With France knocked out of the
war, the Nazis began a massive
bombing campaign to capture
Britain killed over 40,000
civilians
In spite of their smaller military,
the British using new radar
technology and their “Royal Air
Force” were able to fight off the
Nazis
Hoping to secure their power in East
Asia, in December 1941, the Japanese
attacked the British colonies in South
east Asia and the U.S Navy at Pearl
Harbor (Hawaii)
This attack forced the U.S to enter
WWII on the side of the “Allies”
(Britain, France, Soviet Union, U.S,
and China)
The U.S shifted into Total War in
order to fight the Japanese and
support the British:
- Instituted a draft (both whites
and blacks)
- Forced businesses (ex.Ford)
to produce for the war
Used women in the factories
By the end of the War: the U.S
became the largest economy in
the World
After being attacked by the
Japanese, many Americans
and the military grew
suspicious of JapaneseAmericans (Born in America)
This led to an executive order
in which all Japanese
Americans were taken from
their homes and forced to
live inside camps
