1941- Japanese Attack Pearl Harbor
 Pearl Harbor was attacked on Sunday
December 7th,1941 by the Japanese
 The attack started at 7:53 a.m. and lasted
until 9:45 a.m.
 2,335 service men and 68 civilians were killed,
and 1,178 wounded

1943- Warsaw Ghetto Uprising
 Jews at Warsaw Ghetto learned of the final plan to deport the rest
of the Jews in the ghetto to the Treblinka death camp to be killed.
 After learning about the Final Deportation, Mordecai Anielewicz
founded the Z.O.B which means Jewish Fighting Organization
 On April 19, 1943 the Warsaw Ghetto Uprising began when German
Troops entered the Ghetto to deport surviving Jews


1944-D-Day
 On June 6th,1944 Americans and other allied troops landed
on 5 beach heads in Normandy to start the invasion called DDay
 The success of D-Day was the Beginning of the end for the
Germans
 By August almost all of France had been captured and under
control of the Americans and allies
 Hitler was forced to fight a two-front war against the
Russians on the East and the Americans, British, Canadians,
and French on the West
 Within a year Hitler committed suicide and the War in
Germany was over

 The first atomic bomb was dropped on
Hiroshima, Japan on August 6th,1945

on Nagasaki after Japan did not surrender

bomb to not do as much damage
 40% of Nagasaki was destroyed and 70,000
people died

 The Bikini didn’t become popular in Europe

and the popularity of the bikini still continues
to grow
1947- Jackie Robinson Becomes first
African American in MLB
 On April 15,1947 , Jackie Robinson became the first
black in the Major League baseball
 He played the historic first game with the Brooklyn
Dodgers
 25,000 people watched this game in person at Eobets
Field in Brooklyn, New York
 He played 151 games and hit 1,518 times before
retiring from the MLB
 Jackie Robinson died on October 24th,1972 at age 53
from heart problems

1948- Babe Ruth dies
 In November 1946 Babe Ruth entered the
hospital after suffering monstrous pain
above his left eye. It was cancer and he
went through surgery, but not all of the
cancer was removed
 The cancer later grew back and Babe
Ruth died on August 16th,1948 at age 53
