Lois Lowery is from Honolulu, Hawaii.
She has one older sister who’s name is Helen, and a
younger brother named Jon.
Her father was an army dentist.
She attended Brown University in Providence, Rhode
Island.
When she was eleven, she moved to Tokyo Japan.
Her two most famous books are The Giver, and
Number the stars.
Conflict and Plot of Number the Stars
• The book Number the Stars takes place in
Copenhagen, Denmark in 1943. Annemarie
Johansen, is protecting her best friend Ellen Rosen,
a Jew, from the Nazis. Annemarie’s family, and her
best friend Ellen, all move to Annemarie's Uncle
Henrik’s house because of the suspicion by the Nazis
that Ellen isn’t part of their family. She is pretending
to be Lise Johansen, Annemarie's dead older sister.
Can they keep her safe? This story is a lesson to
stand up for your love ones, and to care for the ones
that matter the most.

World War 2
• World War 2 was a global military conflict. Over
seventy million people were killed. Franklin D.
Roosevelt was the commander for the United states
in the war. Adolf Hitler was a German atheist who
wanted no belief in the world, particularly Jews. He
was the leader of Germany and had power to declare
war with over thirty countries in the world. The
Nazis would capture anyone with an apparent belief,
and kill them in a room with two thousand other
people, and shoot out poisonous gases and kill them.
Copenhagen, Denmark
Copenhagen, Denmark is located on the eastern
shore of the island of Zealand. The sports in
Copenhagen include cricket, rugby, soccer, handball,
and ice hockey. Danish music includes Classical,
light classical, Jazz, Rock, Pop, and folk.
