and go back to England from Dunkirk

Take all things that are valuable.

Conduct experiments on prisoners.

Some people in these countries help the Nazis.
They are called collaborators.

gave highly motivational speeches?



Why was there tension between the U.S. and
the Japanese?

Why did the Japanese attack Pearl Harbor?
Allied Strategy

Allies decide to focus on defeating Germany 1st,
then Japan.

Russia wanted England and US to open a
second front.

US and England go to North Africa first.

Then go to Italy.

Makes Russians mad.
The Attack on Italy

After taking control of North Africa, the Allies began to attack the
Axis from their “
Soft Underbelly.”

The Allies (led by George S. Patton) first invaded Sicily & by
1943 had defeated Italy.

During this time, Italians rebelled against Mussolini and he was
killed.

The German forces in Italy continued fighting however and
Rome was not captured until 6/1944.
Why WWII is so Brutal
Biggest thing is modern planes
that can drop lots of bombs.

Both the Allies and Axis bomb
each others civilians.

Also millions die because of
Holocaust.

More people die in WWII than
any war.
New Technology

Radar—to detect planes.

Sonar—to detect subs. Allowed the allies to
get more supplies across the Atlantic.
