over 2500 new students annually. There
are at present about 9800 students
including some 750 foreign/exchange
students from 80 different countries
following full-time or part-time degree and
diploma courses, many of them run on the
modular or credit system. About 2300
students graduate each year.
Junior College
MATSEC Certificate
• The University is also responsible for
the Junior College, a pre-tertiary
institution having some 4000 students.
The two-year course prepares students
for the MATSEC Certificate which gives
access to University.
Relaxing at the University of Malta
• It’s not all work and no play at the University
of Malta. The Students’ Council, Kunsill
Studenti Universitarji is one of the oldest
Students’ Unions in Europe. In 2001, it
celebrated the 100th anniversary of the
founding of the Consiglio Permanente
Universitario, its forerunner. The Council is
affiliated to ESIB - The European Students’
International Bureau.
Relaxing at the University of Malta
Apart from intervening in matters that directly
concern students, the Council organises a
number of social events. Other Faculty and
Student Associations also exist. There is an
active Sports Club. An olympic-size swimming
pool is available for use as is a well-equipped
multi-purpose sports hall.
