Enabling Agile Transparency
• Products needed to enable agile transparency:
– Optical transport technology that extends the distance
between optical to electronic conversions
– Optical switching technology that adds little cost or signal
degradation to through traffic
• Many companies working on such products

Dynamic Modules
• An important class of products are not currently being
addressed in IEC TC86
• Differentiating features:
– alter and control the inter-relationship of channels in a multichannel device.
– provide flexible connectivity or conditioning, rather than being
fixed (i.e. dynamic not static).
• Some elements span across subgroups in IEC TC86
• Agreed to form a new group under TC86 called “Dynamic
Modules” (TC86 WG8)
