Transforming Data: Analysis of
Summary Statistics
Welcome
• Rank the distributions from lowest to highest
standard deviation:
HW Key: Ch 6: 9, 12, 13, 15

Objectives & HW:
• The students will be able to compute the new
summary statistics based on the transformations
of the data, compute and compare z-scores
given mean and standard deviation, and find
percentiles given z-scores.
• HW: Ch 6: #17, 19, 20, 21, 22
Transforming Data Activity:
• Using rand Int function, each student
generates a random integer from 1 to 5
• Each table will get a bag with x cards, where
x = number of students in your group.
• Pick a card.
• The student who picks the card with X on it is
the representative of your group.
• The representatives will go to the front of the
room with their calculators and stand in front
of the random number they generated.
• Teacher will give instructions to the
volunteers.
• Students who are on their seats will use their
calculators to compute the required summary
statistics.
• Turn of OH and proceed with the activity.
