Metamorphic Rocks
The changing of one
type of rock to another
by heat and pressure.
Types of Metamorphism
1) Contact Metamorphism:
–Heat from magma changes nearby
rocks.
2) Regional Metamorphism:
–The movement of one tectonic plate
against another creates high
pressure, which changes the rocks.
Types of Metamorphic Rocks
Foliated – shows metamorphic textures
– Banding- layers of dark and light
minerals (gneiss)
– Rock Cleavage- consists of thin layers
– Schistocity- shiny or waxy appearance
•Non-Foliated – shows no metamorphic
textures (marble)
