Transcript Earth does Matter!

Earth does Matter!
The earth is a big spherical object where the
composition of everything inside it seems to
be a mystery.
As we go on with our trip in our unit entitled
“Earth does Matter!,” we will explore and
discover the mystery of the earth that has
happened billion of years in time.
Unit Summary
In this unit, the class will be exploring the EARTH.
• Discussion about its composition and the changes
• Activities like brainstorming, group experiments and
film viewing
• Unit project: PowerPoint Presentation about any
earthly processes (ex. rock cycle, water cycle, etc)
and Poster presenting a design of a device that can
help lessen environmental problem (ex. trash can,
compost pit, etc.)
The Generation Y Movement
As part of the new generation, let’s make use of
the fastest materials in spreading change in
our environment.
• Computers and the World Wide Web
• Educational Websites
• Use of computer Soft wares like Microsoft
PowerPoint and Photo Editor
Curriculum Framing Questions
• Essential Question:
How can we save the world?
• Unit Question:
How can we preserve earth’s beauty now that it’s quite
deteriorated?
• Content Questions:
What composes the earth?
What daily changes are happening in the earth?
How are rocks formed?
How is soil formed?
How does a water cycle occur?
How does a typhoon occur?
Objectives
At the end of this unit, the students will be able to:
• Identify how rocks, soil, water cycle and typhoon
contribute to earth’s composition
• Be aware of the daily phenomenon happening in
the environment
• Come up with PowerPoint Presentation about any
earthly processes that contribute to earth’s
composition
• Make a multimedia slogan/poster presenting a
device that can help lessen environmental problem
Earth Matters…
The unit project will help develop the following 21st
century skill in my students:
• Creativity and Innovation
- be able to make a creative multimedia
poster and video ad about the earth
• Critical Thinking and Problem Solving
- be able to find simple ways on how to help
solve environmental problems
• ICT (Information, Communication and Technology)
Literacy
- be able to integrate technology in making
the asked projects
• Communication and Collaboration
- be able to accomplish tasks by group and
showcase to the class their outputs
Assessment Plan
Before Project Work
Begins

projects and complete
tasks
After project work is
completed

•Think-Pair-Share
•Brainstorming
•K-W-L Chart
•Science Journal
•Research Checklist
•Group Process Rubric
•K-W-L Chart
•Multimedia Rubric
•Poster Rubric
•Reflections
•Peer Feedback
Assessment Summary
• Know-Wonder-Learn (K-W-L) Charts
- Students create an individual K-W-L in their journals,
add additional questions and new learning.
• Science Journal
- Students make observations and keep notes on
experiments about matter, rocks, soil, and water cycle.
• Think-Pair-Share
- Teacher throws a question about earthly phenomenon
and students are asked to first think about the
question, then to pair with someone and verbally
share their response in class.
• Brainstorming
- Students are asked to share ideas with their respective
groups and come up with single output for a certain
activity.
• Research Checklist
- Guides students throughout their research, monitors
progress and allows students to ask questions
• Multimedia Rubric and Poster Rubric
- Students use the rubric to ensure they’ve met the
expectations and provide feedback to the presenters.
3… 2… 1…
• 3 questions
– How can technology be integrated in making the projects?
– How can the video streaming sites be used in this unit plan?
– How can the photo editor be used in the unit plan and what
can they learn about it?
– The 21st century skills are being focused in the unit plan.
– The multimedia poster and the video ad about the earth
would be a fun thing to do for the students.
• 1 suggestion
– I suggest that the think-pair-share activity would be more
informative if the pairs would share in class what they have
discussed.

Answers to Questions
• In my unit plan, technology will really help my students to do
their activities especially their unit projects. They will use the
products of technology to gather information and to furnish
their outputs since the requirements are mostly computer
generated.
• I was about to pursue the video ad output in which the
video streaming sites will be of great help. But I was
considering the suggestion of my peer critic, Ma’am Christine,
since I have to take into consideration the capabilities and
skills of my students before giving them a task. And because
the unit will be done in 4 weeks time, I think a video ad
would be require more time for them to finish it. So I decided
to require a PPT Presentation rather than a video ad. They
can still visit video streaming sites to get information for the
tasks required.
• The photo editor will be useful when the
students will be making their poster. They will
edit photos and put them all together to
make a poster. The photo editor soft ware
can also help in making the layout of the
poster presentable. It is one use of utilizing
technology in accomplishing the students’ unit
projects.
