• The Great Smoky Mountains National Park is
made up of mountains.
• Over millions of years ago erosion has changed
the Smoky Mountains.
• Today the highest peaks in the Smoky
Mountains are less than 7,000 feet and 2,1000
meters above sea level.
• The Smoky Mountains formed when plates
below the sedimentary rocks met also plates are
large sheet of soft rock that makes the earth’s
crust

Culture
• The Cherokee Indian began living in the
Smoky Mountains in 1213 BC.
• After the Cherokee Indians came, the
settlers came in the 1800’s.
• 9.4 million tourists came to the park in
2010.
Waterways
The Grotto Ralls due to strong currents and an
undertow swimming in the pool is extremely
dangerous
The Great Smoky Mountains National Park has
about 2115 miles of steams within its
boundaries. It is one of the lost wild trout
habitats in the United States.
Wind and rain have warn away the mountain
tops, also streams and rivers have washed soil
down the mountain tops
Rocks and Minerals
The Great Smoky Mountains are made of
mostly sedimentary rock .
Over time the soil at the bottom of the sea
hardened into layers of rock
Pressure caused the sedimentary rock to
fold and lift underwater
