The overall objective of GGCA is to ensure that
climate change policies, decision-making, and
initiatives at the global, regional, and national
levels are gender responsive

Why was GGCA established?

Global policies and strategies on climate change do not take a gender
perspective into account.

UN financing mechanisms on climate change do not address the needs
of poor women and men equitably.

Global standards or criteria are needed to guide the incorporation of
gender principles and tools into climate change initiatives.

Limited capacity exists to design and implement gender-responsive
climate change policies, strategies and programmes.

There is a need for coordinated and consolidated information, tools, and
data on the theme of gender and climate change across institutions and
countries.
