COVER LINES
CENTRAL IMAGE
Am I A Cover Line?
Why are cover lines used?
• Cover lines are a few words or a short phrase related to
a story in the magazines.
• They are designed to entice the reader into finding out
about the stories.
• They are ALWAYS linked to the lifestyle the magazine is
promoting and created for.
– A fitness magazine will have fitness related cover lines.
– A gaming magazine will have game related cover lines.
– A gardening magazine will have gardening related cover
lines.
Example
“The BIG boy-mate question”
Cover lines are found on all lifestyle
magazines because they entice the
reader to find out more about the
stories in the magazine.
The cover line above from ‘Sugar’
magazine relates to a story about
whether girls should or should not
kiss boys. This is because Sugar is
aimed at young teenage girls and
the magazine is about teenage
relationships as well as fashion
