Climate Change and the Environment
Why I have confidence in the Bible!
1. Because it’s guidance is timeless and always
appropriate
2. Because it’s critics have always been answered
3. Because It’s survived unchanged for thousands
of years
4. Because nature is ordered, structured and
follows closely defined laws as laid down in
the Bible
Why I have confidence in the Bible!
“And God made the beast of
the earth according to it’s
kind, cattle according to it’s
kind, and everything that
creeps on the earth according
to it’s kind”
Gen 1v25
Why I have confidence in the Bible!
5. Because it’s prophecies have come true
6. Because it brings purpose and meaning to life
7. Because it explains human suffering and gives
hope for the future

Climate Change and the Environment
The world as it once was…
“God saw everything that He had
made and indeed it was very good”
Gen 1v25

The world as it once was…
“For the LORD God had not caused it to
rain on the earth… but a mist went up
from the earth and watered the whole
face of the ground”
Gen 2v5-6

But then the environment changed…
“Cursed is the ground for your
sake, in toil you shall eat of it all
the days of your life. Both thorns
and thistles it shall bring forth to
you”
Gen 3 v17-18
Mans has compounded the problem…
“All have sinned and come short
of the glory of God”
Romans 3 v 23
When sin got out of control
“The LORD saw that the wickedness
of man was great in the earth and
that every intent of the thoughts of
his heart was only evil continually”
Gen 6 v 6
When sin got out of control
“So the LORD said, “I will destroy
man whom I have created from the
face of the earth ” Gen 6 v 7
“And all flesh died that moved on
the earth ” Gen 7 v 21
The patience of God
“The Divine longsuffering
waited in the days of Noah
while the ark was being
prepared ”
1 Peter 3 v 20
The promise
“I will never again curse the ground
for man’s sake although the
imagination of man’s heart is evil
from his youth; nor will I again
destroy every
living thing as I
have done ”
Gen 8 v 21

The flood – Did it happen?
•
“Many nations have ancient myths about a major destructive
flood; eg. India, Burma, Indonesia, Tahiti, China, Japan, Siberia,
Australian Aborigines, Alaska, Egypt, Iceland etc”.
(See The flood re-considered F.A.Bilby)
•
“Throughout the world, fossils have been found of creatures
that died a sudden and violent death”.
(Evolution or Creation H. Enoch)
•
“Huge dinosaur graveyards, eg the dinosaur graveyard, Utah,
where over 300 were drowned together”.
(Myths and Miracles, David Watson)
God can use weather to control
events
The destruction of Sodom and Gomorrah. People had sunk to the lowest
level of depravity and were proud of what they were doing
“Then the LORD rained brimstone and fire on Sodom and Gommorah from the
LORD out of the Heavens”
Genesis 19 v 24
A demonstration of God’s power to the Egyptians when Pharaoh refused
to release the Israelites
“The LORD sent thunder and hail, and fire darted to the ground and the LORD
rained hail on the land of Egypt”
Exodus 9 v 23
To teach Jonah about God’s mercy
“When the sun rose, God prepared a vehement east wind”
Jonah 4 v 8
Conclusion so far…
The state of the environment as we see it today is
directly related to the refusal of mankind to keep God’s
laws; ie “sin”
God can control the weather and has at times used
weather conditions to achieve his purpose with
mankind
God will not allow climate change, or any other
catastrophe to destroy the earth
The next question…
So when we see floods and adverse weather today Can
we assume that God is punishing individuals because
they are worse sinners than everyone else?
“Those 18 on whom the tower of Siloam fell and killed
them, do you think that they were worse sinners than all
other men who dwelt in Jerusalem? I tell you no, but unless
you repent you will all likewise perish”
Luke 13 v 4-5
So the suffering we see in the world serves as a
reminder to us that we ALL sin and will suffer
death as a consequence
Our responsibility to the environment
“The earth is the LORD’s and
all it’s fullness”
Psalm 24 v 1
“6 years you shall sow your
field…but in the 7th year there
shall be a sabbath of solemn
rest for the land”
Leviticus 25 v 3-4
A new world order…
“But Truly, as I live, all the
earth shall be filled with the
Glory of the LORD”
Numbers 14 v 21
“God at first visited the
Gentiles to take out of
them a people for his
name”
Acts 15 v 14
