1- Introduction
Sustainable development is recognized and
accepted as the dominant development
paradigm for the 21st century
The African Development Bank (AfDB)
adopted in 2004 an environment policy for
support Regional Members Countries and help
them to adress to the environmental issues
and to build their institutional and human
capacities of managing their for a sustainable
development.

water, agriculture, forest, climate
change, energy…

The AfDB, with the collaboration of his partners,
contributed to the implementation any
initiatives:
African Carbon Support Program
Africa Commission’s Sustainable Energy
Initiative (SEI)
African Water Facility
Climate Change Program
Congo Basin Forest Fund

o In Statistical Capacity Building Program (SCB)
SBC mobilize substantial financial
resources for activities in Environment
statistics

o In the AfDB’s Statistics Department (ESTA)
work program
ESTA work program for 2011-2012 in the area of
environment statistics includes the following
activities:
Follow-up and contribution to the design
of the regional and international initiatives
aiming at the production of Environment
Statistics in RMCs;
Participation in the regional and
international meetings on Environment
Statistics;
Organization of the meetings and
workshops on Environment Statistics;

Support the countries in the
implementation of the regional and
international initiatives aiming at the
production of Environment Statistics.
In 2011, the Bank envisage to carry out the
following activities:
Make a review of the environment
statistics state in the in RMCs;
Reinforce the existing partnerships with
international institutions and network
also with regional and sub regional
organizations to coordinate interventions
in Environment Statistics.

Conclusion
It is thus with a great interest that
AfDB follows recommendations of this
workshop.
