time to brainstorm ideas for lesson plans.

About
• Howard County Public Schools is starting to
implement the Bring Your Own Device (BYOD)
into schools.
• Elkridge Landing Middle School (ELMS) is an iPad
school (where every student is provided with an
iPad during school hours and sometimes outside
of school)
• The iPads are starting to need repairs and we do
not have the funding to replace any non-working
iPads.
What it is?
• Bring Your Own Device allows students to use
their personal devices in the classroom.
• By allowing students to use their devices,
students are able to connect to the internet
anytime during class.

• Student Device Agreement
– Students who use devices in schools (personal and
“school owned” devices read and sign the user
agreement.
– Parents must sign document as well
Examples of classroom rules
• 1. Only use your device in appropriate
locations.
• 2. Use your device appropriately.
• 3. Only take photos/videos for assignments
only.
• 4. Use of device is restricted to owner only.
• 5. Remember to charge your device.
• 6. Use the school’s WIFI only

• 7. Remove ear buds and turn off phones when
asked.
• 8. Music should only be heard by you.
• 9. Turn off device or put to sleep when not in
use.
• 10. Put device face down/case closed on your
desk until teacher instructs you to use it.

Benefits of BYOD
• Provide students with anytime, anyplace
resources and internet access.
• Students are comfortable with their own
devices.
• Puts costs responsibilities on parents instead
of school system.
• Same rules/guidelines will be applied as iPads.
