The Clean Energy Future Plan
The Government’s plan for a clean energy future responds to the climate
change science, while being economically responsible. It has committed to
reducing carbon emissions by 5% by 2020 and by 80% by 2050 from 2000
levels.
Key elements of the Clean Energy Future Plan include:

Introduction of a Carbon Price and the return of every cent to assist
households, support jobs and tackle climate change.
Promotion of innovation and investment in Renewable Energy
Encourage Energy Efficiency
Creation of opportunities in the Land Sector to cut pollution and improve
productivity, sustainability and resilience.
The carbon pricing mechanism will commence on 1 July 2012.

Project Objectives
To build awareness and capacity within the planning
and built environment professions to understand and
facilitate the delivery of a clean energy future in
Australia.
Key Elements

Deliverables:
1. Communicate benefits of CEF for planners (and their
role)
2. Determine capability and capacity of planners to
deliver a CEF
3. Identify priority areas and key activities for planners
4. Determine implications, opportunities and
challenges
5. Provide supporting information, tools and resources
Research Results
A Clean Energy Future for Planners
The online questionnaire provided planning and built environment
professionals with the opportunity to share their experiences, knowledge and
opinions in relation to the Clean Energy Future Plan.
The survey was circulated to over 5,500 planners
There were 693 responses (578 surveys were completed in full)
Key Findings:
- 90% of planners agreed Australia needed a dedicated climate change
policy
- 60% of planners had heard of the CEF Plan
- 87% of planners were interested in additional information
- 86% of planners were interested in participating in training
