Attendance Matters
Research shows that for every 10% non-attendance over
a school year a grade at GCSE is lost.
Absence Procedures
All pupils are expected to attend school full-time unless
they are medically unfit or there are other
circumstances beyond their control.
Pupils have 13 weeks of holidays during the year, so
family holidays should not be taken during term time.
Only in exceptional circumstances will leave of absence
be granted during term time. Any request must be in
writing to Mrs Anderson at least 2 weeks in advance.
Please do not assume that this automatically authorises
absence.
No leave of absence will be granted during examination
periods.

Respect
Absence Procedures
If you are absent from school your parents/carers
should ring the school on the first day of absence to
explain the reason.
If you are absent for more than 3 days, parents/carers
should keep the school updated on your condition and
when you are likely to return.
On your return to school, you must show a completed
Absence Explanation note (in your planner) to your
form tutor, explaining the reason for absence, written
and signed by a parent/carer.
Absences will not be authorised without this slip.

Caring
What students can do during and
after a period of absence
Keep in touch with school work by speaking to a friend
who may be able to collect work, note home works,
photocopy notes.
Ask for books to be sent home or collected.
Carry out private reading or extended project work.
Approach staff on return to school and seek help and
support for catching up on missed work.
In exceptional circumstances, when absence is for a
prolonged period, it may be possible for the school to
provide work in some subjects at parental request.

Attendance Reward Scheme
Excellent attendance is rewarded each year with certificates
and a reward scheme is in place.
In order to recognise good attendance the school operates a
very popular reward scheme.
Pupils with above 97% attendance at the end of each main
term (Christmas, Spring, Summer) will be entered into the
attendance raffle draw.
If attendance is 100% for the school year pupils will be entered
into a prize draw at the end of the Summer term, the prize
being a more substantial reward.
Please share with us any ideas you have for encouraging good
attendance.
