Boolean search methods
• How can a student do effective research using
this method?
• The plus symbol:
• Now that you know how to eliminate search terms, here's how you
can add them in, using the "+" symbol. For example, if you have
terms that must be returned in all your search results, you can place
the plus symbol in front of the terms that you need included, such as:
• football+nfl
• https://search.yahoo.com/yhs/search?p=football+and+nfl&ei=UTF8&hspart=mozilla&hsimp=yhs-002
Boolean
• The minus symbol:
• Use the "-" symbol when you want a search engine to find pages
that have one search word on them, but you need the search
engine to exclude other words commonly associated with that
search word. For example:
• Superman -Krypton

Writing in a Learning Management System
What is an LMS (or CMS)?
A learning management system (LMS) is a software application for the
administration, documentation, tracking, reporting and delivery of
electronic educational technology (also called e-learning) education
courses or training programs.
We use Schoology as our LMS. It is the
backbone of the writing component for
many of course offerings.
Can be used for free (www.schoology.com)

private, or moderated)
Example - Understanding Hamilton
In Hamilton, Eliza Hamilton's sister Angelica says "“You have married an Icarus He has
flown too close to the sun.” What does this statement mean?
Wed 31 Aug 2016 at 11:13 am by 8th grade student Jack D.
Angelica is trying to explain that Alexander is someone with high ambition, but has gotten carried away
with it. In the mythological story, Icarus, was the son of Daedalus, who had made a labyrinth to trap
multiple myhtological beasts for, his king, who later imprisoned them both. Daedalus had created
two sets of wings in hopes of escaping with himself, and his son, Icarus. As these were made of
wax, Icarus was told to not fly too high to sun, as the wings would melt. Icarus got ahead of himself,
and flew too high, which ultimately led to his demise - much like how Alexander went too far, and led
his relationship to a demise.
