Deadroses Album
ARTIST: BLACKBEAR
BY: KENZIE TURPIN
Summary/Overview
Blackbear’s new album was just released on February 14th 2015
(valentine’s day). Contains 10 songs, one that feature rapper G-Eazy.
Every song has explicit content. This album is a mixture of rap, soul,
and R&B. This is Blackbear’s 1st real album (not an EP). Most of the
songs are of course, about a girl or love in general just like almost
every song in the 21st century is.
Evaluation
“Waste Away”
This song has a remix tone and adding Devon Baldwin really tied
the song together. He made it that its still a slow song but it isn’t
necessary sad because of the background music and beats.
Reminds me of the remix of Habits (Stay High) by Tove Lo. Devon’s
voice really mad the song sound more lovely and less like a rap
song.
Evaluation
“90210”
The title “90210” has been use for many songs throughout rap and
R&B history. The reason this one seems to stand out is because
Blackbear tied R&B and rap together to make the sound more
original. But of course like every other “90210” song its about a girl
who really isn’t control of her life and moves at a “fast pace”
throughout life.
Overall Reaction
Overall, this is one of my favorite albums because he has a type
of sound that draws you in. While it seems like its just like every other
song about a girl, Blackbear adds his own personal touch to it, like
most artists seem to do because every person is different.
Blackbear also seems to have a different voice in every one of his
songs in this album, wither its higher or lower notes or fact or slow
pace. I love that he didn’t drastically change his sound from his EPs
into this album, like most uprising artists do.
Recommendation
I recommend this album to really anyone, not really anyone who
likes rap. His voice is nice and it’s a great album to sing along to. The
songs are mostly really chill, nothing too hyped. I would also
recommend his earlier EPs such as “The Afterglow” and “Foreplay”.
His singles aren’t too bad either. He really is such an original artist
mostly due to the fact he’s more “underground”.
