Over a decade ago, EGYPT has set
environmental conservation and
protection as a priority issue
In cooperation with the
International Community that
has embarked on the
development of Climate Policy
with an unprecedented speed,
Egypt signed the UNFCCC at the
conference in Reo 1992.
Ratification on 5/12/94.
EGYPT and international cop
• Being sure of Kyoto Protocol
importance in GHG Reduction,
EGYPT signed the protocol on
March 15th 1995.
• Ratification processes of KP has
been passed through different
channels.
• It is now under the decision of
the Egyptian parliament, likely to
be before the end of 2004.

EGYPT include the following
aspects:
A-Conformity to political and legal
dispositions
B-Contribution to :
1- Technology Autonomy.
2- Sustainable use of Natural
Resources .
Other criteria
3- Social Criteria (Improve Quality
of Life and Equity, Alleviate
Poverty).
4- Economic criteria (Provide
Financial returns to Local
Entities, Transfer of New
Technology).
5- Environmental Criteria
(Mitigation of Global Climate
Change, Reduce GHG, Conserve
Local Resources).
DNA in Egypt
Official establishment of the DNA at
EEAA By the Minister of
Environmental Affairs was
accepted on March 15, 2003.
EEAA through its Climate Change
Unit (CCU) is the official technical
point for climate change activities
in Egypt, and also, in charge of the
CDM activities in Egypt (Egyptian
Bureau to DNA).
Composition of the DNA in
Egypt
The Designated National
Authority for CDM in Egypt is
composed of:
1- The Egyptian Council for
CDM(EC-CDM)
2- The Egyptian Bureau for
CDM (EB-CDM) which is the
permanent secretariat of the
Egyptian Council for CDM

Promotion of Egyptian CDM Projects
among the International Investment
Community is one of the priorities of
the Egyptian CDM-DNA.
The process of Project Evaluation
until delivering the Final Approval
Letter to the project promoter by
the DNA in EGYPT takes no more
than 2 months.

There are plenty of CDM projects
in different sectors:

Processes (Fuel Switching,
Energy efficiency , Cogeneration
, Nitric Acid factories, Cement
factories ….).
- Electricity (Wind Farms, Solar
