• Independence or National Days are the most
important day for a country to celebrate as a
national holiday. The majority of the countries on
earth became independent after 1800 and many
more following World War II when European
powers granted independence to their colonial
holdings, especially Africa. Egypt was declared
independent on February 28, 1922 from under
the British rule and it acquired full sovereignty
following World War II.

• Egypt at the time of the 1952 revolution was much
further advanced industrially than any other Arab country
or indeed any country in Africa except South Africa.
Under the socialist Nasser administration, the
government coordinated industrial expansion and the
establishment of an industrial base. As a result,
bureaucracy and a dependence on political directives
from the government became common to Egyptian
industry. Since the early 1990s the government has
promoted privatization as a way to eventually increase
industrial output
