1. Since the passage of the Seventeenth Amendment
in 1913, senators have been chosen by popular
elections in their states.
2. Unlike presidents, senators are elected to six-year
terms, and they can be re-elected any number of
times.
3. To be eligible for the Senate, a person must have
been a United States citizen for at least nine years
and be at least thirty years old.
